1. How long will it take me to use NETFILE?
   We can't estimate how long it will take to use the commercial tax preparation software you bought or the Web application you have chosen, but once your tax return is complete, it will take less than five minutes to send us your return through the NETFILE Web site.
   
   
2. How do I search for my ".tax" file?
   PC users, click on Start, Search, For Files or Folders, type *.tax in the search field and look in C Drive.
   
   Mac users click on Finder (on icon menu). A search box pops up and in the top right corner of the box, type .tax in search field.
   
   
3. How do I copy and paste the location of my ".tax" file into the NETFILE Transmission page with Internet Explorer 8?
   On the NETFILE Transmission page, in Step 2 - Attaching a return, click the Browse button, then in the Choose File to Upload dialog box, paste the location of the “.tax” file into the File Name field, and click the Open button.
   
   
4. I think your system is down. I tried to file last night and it did not work. Why?
   Go to our hours of service page. You may have tried to file when the system was not available. Or, you may have to change your computer settings.
   
   
5. What are the chances of my tax return being reviewed if I use NETFILE?
   The same criteria for reviewing income tax returns are used for both paper and electronic versions. Please visit our Web site at www.cra.gc.ca/reviews/ for more information.

   Note
   You need to keep all your tax information slips and documents for six years after you file your tax return.
   
   

6. What if I want to change my direct deposit information or cancel the direct deposit service with the CRA?
   You can request direct deposit or update your information using one of the following options:
   
   • My Account service;
   • complete a Form T1-DD(1) Direct Deposit Request and mail it to your tax centre;
   • drop off your completed Form T1-DD(1) directly at a tax office or;
   • you can call 1-800-959-8281 if you need help to complete the direct deposit information, or to cancel the direct deposit service.
   
   
   
7. I haven't filed a tax return in a few years. However, I would like to file my tax return this year. Can I use NETFILE?
   As long as you have filed a tax return in the past with the CRA and we have the correct information on file for you, ie. correct address, etc., you can file your current year tax return using NETFILE. If you wish to file the prior year tax returns that you have not yet filed, you will need to send these via regular mail.
